Overview

As Co-Lead of the Sponsorship Team for Fiesta 2026, I helped lead fundraising and donor outreach for a school-wide initiative supporting the KMRF Foundation and rural schools in Aziz Nagar, Hyderabad. My role combined sponsorship strategy, team coordination, external communication, and community service, with the goal of turning financial support into tangible improvements for students and their schools.

Why the Work Mattered

The work mattered because the money raised was tied directly to needs that affected students every day. The three schools we supported required basic infrastructure and learning resources, including tables, stationery, classroom boards, lighting, fans, whitewashing, medical kits, and other essentials. Seeing how relatively simple improvements could change the quality of a learning environment made the fundraising feel much more meaningful than simply reaching a financial target.

My Role

As Co-Lead of the Sponsorship Team, I helped manage a team of 10+ students responsible for identifying potential sponsors, developing outreach strategies, preparing sponsorship materials, contacting businesses and donors, and maintaining communication throughout the fundraising process. I also helped structure sponsorship tiers so contributors could clearly understand how their support would translate into impact.

Sponsorship Strategy

Our strategy focused on making sponsorship both structured and personal. We created clear contribution tiers, tailored our outreach to different businesses and donors, and emphasized the direct connection between each contribution and the improvements it could support. I helped coordinate outreach across the team, refine sponsor communication, and make sure potential donors understood that they were contributing to specific educational needs rather than to an abstract fundraising total.

Fundraising

Our sponsorship team raised approximately $6,000, contributing to roughly $14,000 raised through Fiesta overall. Reaching that total required repeated outreach, follow-ups, sponsor conversations, and adjustments to how we presented the initiative. One of the biggest things I learned was that fundraising is rarely about a single successful pitch; it is about persistence, credibility, and showing people clearly why their contribution matters.

Community Impact

The proceeds supported three rural schools in Aziz Nagar, benefiting more than 200 students. Funds were used for practical improvements including tables, stationery, whitewashing, lights, fans, classroom boards, medical kits, and other school necessities. Being able to connect the fundraising process with visible changes in classrooms made the impact of the work feel immediate and real.

Service Work

My involvement with KMRF extended beyond sponsorship. I also contributed to educational and sports-based workshops, event preparation, logistics, photography, and on-ground service activities with students from under-resourced communities. This allowed me to experience both sides of the initiative: raising the resources and then seeing how those resources and volunteer hours translated into actual support.

Reflection

Fiesta changed the way I think about service because it showed me that impact can begin far before the moment you arrive at a school or hand over supplies. It can start with researching a potential sponsor, sending an email, following up after no response, or explaining why a contribution matters. Leading sponsorship taught me how much persistence and communication go into turning an idea into something tangible. What stayed with me most was seeing the connection between the numbers we tracked during fundraising and the physical changes those numbers eventually created in classrooms. After that, a sponsorship total stopped feeling like just a number; it represented desks, lights, supplies, and better learning spaces for students.
